Why It Matters

Why this story deserves the reader's time.

This matters because EV stories are rarely only about one car. They usually signal where pricing, range expectations and brand confidence are moving next.

Key Takeaways
  • The point is no longer whether it surprises people.
  • BYD is the clearest brand thread running through this story.
  • Follow-up context is strongest around Electric and China.
Reading Theme

The BYD Han is important in a slightly unsettling way for established brands. It does not make its case through gimmickry or outsider charm. It makes its case by feeling increasingly normal in a premium context. Once a Chinese electric sedan begins to look less like a disruption story and more like a straightforward executive-car option, the competitive ground has already shifted.

The updated 2025 version extends range to as much as 701 km in top specification while retaining the familiar design language that combines BYD's Dragon Face styling with the proportions of a proper executive sedan. At 4.99 meters long, it sits directly in the territory occupied by the Mercedes E-Class and BMW 5 Series.

Performance that surprises

The dual-motor version produces 517 hp and 700 Nm of torque. It reaches 100 km/h in 3.9 seconds. The chassis is tuned with real competence. It is not as sharp or playful as a BMW, but it feels composed, quiet and reassuringly confident. The steering communicates more honestly than many buyers would expect.

An interior that changes expectations

A 15.6-inch rotating screen, 64-color ambient lighting and a 12-speaker Dynaudio audio system are all part of the story. Materials are respectable, fit and finish are solid, and the overall impression is far stronger than the car's old stereotypes would suggest. It is not trying to be a Rolls-Royce, and it does not need to be.

In China, pricing starts at roughly 22,000 euros. In Europe, where BYD is gradually expanding, the Han would still look like strong value even around the 45,000-euro mark, because that remains well below many of its direct rivals.

If you are willing to look past old assumptions, the Han is a persuasive argument that the Chinese premium car industry is no longer an idea for the future. It is already here.
